After The Surgery
After the surgery you may feel a slight foreign body sensation in your eyes as well as experience some mild burning and/or itchiness. Your vision may initially be somewhat foggy. You will be given a detailed list of instructions:
- Return home after surgery and try to sleep - if appropriate. Try to keep eyes closed as much as possible. No computer use, television, reading, etc.
- Use antibiotic eye drops every 4-hour while awake starting when you get home.
- Use anti-inflammatory drops every 4-hours—unless otherwise instructed.
- Allow up to 5 minutes between each drop.
- Wear plastic eye shields given to you after surgery from the time you leave the center, until the next morning when you wake up. Only remove them to apply drops.
- Do not rub your eyes.
- Keep debris and water from getting in your eyes.
- Avoid smoke filled rooms and dusty environments for a few days.
- No vigorous activities for 2 weeks ,including swimming, hot tubs, saunas, etc., which may result in sweat or other fluids getting into the eyes
- Do not wear eye makeup for 2 weeks. .
- Use artificial tears (preferably preservative-free) as often as needed for dry eyes or discomfort.
